Winter 2026 Recap

Winter 2026 marked an exceptional season for our Francophone Black community in Alberta. It was a time when bonds grew stronger, when cultural transmission took on its full meaning, and when celebrating our heritage held a central place.

Transmission workshops gave younger generations the chance to discover traditional knowledge and craftsmanship, while festive events brought several generations together around shared values. This season was also an opportunity to highlight the talents and accomplishments of our members, reinforcing our collective pride.

Our Winter Highlights

Intergenerational Transmission

Our elders shared their knowledge with younger generations through storytelling, traditional cooking, and craft workshops. These meaningful moments strengthen family and community bonds while ensuring that our traditions endure.

Recognition and Excellence

We celebrated the remarkable accomplishments of our members at our awards ceremonies. These recognitions honour the work and dedication of those who help our culture shine across the province and beyond.

Living Culture and Traditions

The community sugar shack brought young and old together around traditional dishes and warm conversations. This annual gathering has become a powerful symbol of our cultural identity and of our ability to create connection even through the coldest seasons.

Creativity and Expression

Writing workshops and the art exhibition showcased the richness of our creativity. These spaces of expression let each person tell their story, explore their roots, and share their feelings with the community.

This winter showed that our culture is a powerful force for connecting people and building a tight-knit community. By taking part in KAYANOU events, you help sustain a rich and diverse cultural heritage. We invite you to stay engaged and to keep celebrating our unique heritage together.

To stay up to date with upcoming activities, check our calendar regularly and join us on this collective journey.
